iMovie is a great program that comes with all Macs. There is also an app for that, at a price of $4.99 for a single license, or at a discounted $2.49 per device through the Volume Purchase Program for education. iMovie makes it really easy to edit footage from a digital camera, the laptop webcam, iOS devices (iPod, iPad and iPhones), and even downloaded clips from the Internet.
It’s a great tool to make any small school performance a digital masterpiece. The new iMovie ’11 comes with trailer templates that make any video look like it is headed to Hollywood. Using these templates students in the elementary school can create trailers to books that they have read, or teasers for upcoming performances or units. Today we walked through the basics of iMovie; importing video, quick edits and publishing. I will be following up this introductory session with small hands-on sessions that focus on one aspect of movie making. Next week, is all about using green screen effects.
